2023 Housing Initiatives Success

The Parkersburg/Wood County HOME Consortium is proud to announce the achievements of its housing initiatives so far in 2023. These initiatives, aimed at improving housing accessibility and safety for our community members, have yielded impressive results in the first three quarters of this year.

The Down Payment Assistance Program (DPAP) administered by the Parkersburg/Wood County HOME Consortium works to aid income-eligible, first-time homebuyers with the purchase of a single-family home within Wood County by providing funds for their down payment and closing cost assistance.  In the first three quarters of 2023, the Consortium has closed on 12 loans, all assisting first time home buyers totaling $160,788 and expect to process an additional 5 loans by the end of the year.

The Minor Home Repair Program (MHRP) and the Emergency Home Repair Program (EHR) administered by the City of Parkersburg seeks to provide city residents who may not normally qualify for a traditional home equity loan with a grant to make needed improvements to their home to bring the unit closer to state and local building code standards and provide more safe and sanitary living conditions.  In the first three quarters of 2023, the city assisted 23 households with needed repairs totaling over $200,000. Repairs include items such as roofing, windows, siding, electrical upgrades, or HVAC improvements.

"The success of our housing initiatives in 2023 is a testament to the dedication and collaboration of the Parkersburg/Wood County HOME Consortium and the City of Parkersburg," said Lisa Cullum, Financial Compliance Officer for the City of Parkersburg, "We are thrilled to see so many families achieving their dream of homeownership through DPAP and countless others benefiting from safer and more comfortable living conditions through MHRP and EHR. Our commitment to improving housing accessibility and safety remains unwavering, and we look forward to continued success in the years to come."

The Parkersburg/Wood County HOME Consortium is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of our community members. The Consortium would like to express its gratitude to all partners, stakeholders, and dedicated staff who have contributed to the success of these initiatives in 2023.
