Building Permits

To help ensure general safety, structural integrity, and code compliance, the City of Parkersburg relies on national and international codes for building projects within the city borders. If the property is inside the city limits, anyone who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or modify any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system, is required by law to obtain a building permit before the work has begun.

Building Permits can be obtained in the Building and Zoning Office on the 4th floor of the City Municipal Building. Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the applicable code, or to cause any such work to be done, shall obtain a building permit before the work has begun.

Secure a copy of the appropriate requirements for your project from the Permit or Zoning offices. Please review the requirements and apply them to your plans to be submitted. Any plans submitted that do not follow the applicable requirements will not be reviewed and could delay the issuance of a permit.

A Zoning Permit may be required before work can proceed. The Zoning Permit application can be submitted alongside the Building Permit Application.
